Tiendesitas is more than just a shopping mecca in the middle of what used to be just Valle Verde in Pasig. Recently we received a cryptic email from Paul Jason d. Jaud of the Ortigas Company consisting of a poster for an event called the Tiendesitas Music & Arts Festival that will be happening on May 16 and 17.

The venerable radio station which invented the word “Pinoy Rock” is celebrating 45 years of existence. And what better way to celebrate than to gather Pinoy Rock icons from the 60’s and 70’s and put them together with 80’s, 90’s and present day pinoy band stars in a super session with a cause – to raise money for the families of our fallen soldiers.

All Eraserheads, All The Time
Tuesday, 07 October 2008
headsSo it's been over a month since that fabled Eraserheads reunion went from rumor status to a real live event. And yet people are still talking about it like it was only yesterday that the crowds were milling about Fort Bonifacio, gawking at the giant screen with the digital countdown. The blogs are still a-buzz, and it's still the main topic of conversation on the Eraserheads mailing list. The August 30 concert even spun off a few spoofs on television via a "Bubble Gang" skit and a hilarious episode of Quark Henares' show "Rakista" on Channel 5 guest-starring Raymund "Drums not Drama" Marasigan himself. When will this madness end? If Sony BMG has its way - not anytime soon - with a new concert album, a concert DVD, a 10-CD box set - and a couple of movies on the way, your iPod will be humming with eHeads tunes way into 2009.

A Gathering of Songwriters
Tuesday, 07 October 2008
songA small crowd of amateur and professional songwriters gathered up for one big night of purely original Filipino music at the 9 Mile Bar along Kalayaan Road in Quezon City. The crusade of songwriters for the recognition of their incomparable songwriting prowess was once again proven its worthiness. Rekindling an old flame that was started by Katha: Organization of Filipino Composers after it was dissolved last year, former Katha members reunited to light the torch one more time.

A Blast From the Past: PhilMusic circa 1999
Wednesday, 01 October 2008
1999Thanks to Google's flashback to 2001 (one of the many gimmicks lined up for its tenth anniversary) I was able to find this old article about local music publications circa 1999 written by Claire Agbayani-Isidro for a now defunct publication called Perspective. This piece profiled three publications - Pulp, Volume (then edited by Eric Caruncho but which no longer exists) and PhilMusic.com. A little trip back to the dawn of the twenty-first century.

Odd Times: Local Progressive Community Gets It Together
Monday, 22 September 2008
clockWith "Odd Times: In Progression III" on September 26, the pinoy prog community comes together once again for a night of challenging time signatures and rhapsodic solos.  Featuring CinderBlock, Fuseboxx, Kitchen Sync (prog brethren from Baguio) Nimbus Crowd and Thought Prison, with an opening act by Drastic Measure. Tom Lacdao writes: "The Pinoy Prog Community is calling out to everyone, especially the prog bands and artists out there to join us. They are out there; they just don't know about the community. This is a group where bands help and promote each other and listeners can enjoy the diversity of each band's musical styles."

Delta Slim: A Benefit for a Blues Brother
Friday, 05 September 2008
deltaslimWe got the text from Andy Locsin of the Blue Rats (a man who also goes by the name of "BlueBuddha" on the PhilMusic Forums ). A real shocker as it turns out that Joric Maglanque - also known as "Delta Slim" of Blues bands like the Soul Dredgers and Firebottle - wil be going under the knife for heart surgery. More specifically, an aortic valve replacement. A fund raising gig at the Hobbit House on Saturday, September 6 has been organized featuring Snakecharmer, The Blue Rats, and Mr. Crayon.
